PROVIDING QUALITY, COST EFFECTIVE WEIGHING EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES TO THE SOUTH AFRICAN FISHING INDUSTRY

The South African Fishing Industry has for the past decade had a limited choice of suppliers for weighing and measurement equipment. This choice has more recently been reduced further by the acquisition by Marel of Scanvaegt. The consequence of this reality has been comparably high product and services pricing within the region.

Recognizing this reality Sasco Africa, together with their product partners in fishing, Marelec decided to enter the Southern African fishing market with a comprehensive range of high quality but reasonably priced weighing equipment.

Sasco Africa is the heir to Avery heritage in Africa. Founded in 1910 SA Scale Company (Pty) Ltd along with various other W & T Avery companies were owned and operated by Avery in the UK for over 90 years. In 2002 Avery sold out of Africa and SA Scale Company along with most of Avery's other African operations were acquired by a local investor group. These weighing businesses have been brought together under a common operating structure and brand - "Sasco Africa".

Sasco Africa greatly values its Avery heritage which has a reputation for durable quality products with full product support for decades after installation. As we approach our 100 anniversary our mission is to build on this heritage by expanding our products and services to focus on dedicated sectors, such as fishing, through partnering with leading international suppliers.

Marelec has been active in the international fishing industry since 1983. The company pioneered the trawl weigh concept and has rapidly built on this technology over the past 20 years to create a comprehensive range of highly robust on shore and off shore products. All products are developed and designed in house at the companies headquarters in Nieuwpoort, Belgium. Key marine products include Marelec's range of motion compensation scales, checkweighers, compact graders, platform scales and related software.

Of possibly greater importance to the industry is our commitment to maintaining and building on the second cornerstone of our heritage - that of continuing after sales service and support. Sasco Africa already has by far the largest owned and operated service network of any weighing company in Southern Africa. This network comprises over 30 branches. Of specific relevance to the fishing industry are our coastal branches namely Walvis Bay, Cape Town, Port ELizabeth, East London, George and Durban. A further coastal branch is planned in Dar Es Salaam in due course.

Our branch infrastructure is continuously monitored, in terms of call status and response times, by a central call centre in Johannesburg. The capability to monitor service response times across our network is fundamental to our commitment to deliver the timely response times needed to support our clients weighing equipment in the filed.

It is Sasco Africa's hope and expectation the we will be able to make a valuable contribution to the Southern African Fishing Industry in the months, years and decades ahead in the same way as we have been able to in the weighing industry more generally for over the past 90 years.
