Animal Feeds

Global meat production approximates 320mt annually with the key segments being 45% pigs, 35% chickens, beef 15% and the balance being other poultry. Meat production in Africa is focused on beef and poultry with the continent accounting for approximately 9% of world production in these two sub-sectors.

The largest beef producer in Africa is Ethiopia accounting for half the continents production followed by Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. African poultry production is dominated by South African companies, as four of the top six broiler producers are headquartered in South Africa.

Animal feeds feed comprises grain products grain used in the production of livestock animal feeds and include maize, wheat, barley sorghum, oats and rye which are then sold to beef and poultry producers.
