The challenges of operating sites requiring high volume weighing of high value products are:
- Fraud through illegal trucks entering sites.
- Slow weighing times due to excessive human processes
- Inaccuracies due to human errors
Facing these challenges, a leading platinum mining group in SA sought a to upgrade its weighbridge operations to:
- Convert the weighbridges to completely unmanned operations.
- Incorporated a web-based pre-arrival truck registration portal.
- Introduce fully automated “total truck validation” before weighing.
- Avoid drivers getting out of their trucks to collect weighing tickets.
Solution Overview
The standard elements of the Sasco automation solution comprised:
- 1 x WB80T weighbridge with full axle weighing functionality
- 2 x traffic booms
- 2 x traffic lights
- 1 x APNR camera
- 2 x snapshot cameras
New Features Included:
- New Transporter Web Portal for the pre-loading by transporters of their scheduled truck arrivals. This solution was developed using Sasco Multi Weigh software or this solution. This portal requires transporters to pre-register full details of those trucks in their fleets scheduled to arrive at the Site.
- New Sasco AI Truck Validation software, which in addition to recognising the number plate details of the truck, also determines the make and colour of the truck. A substantial security enhancement.
- New Sasco DT – 3050 Driver Terminal which is a complete driver interface unit, mounted at truck window height, provides an array of functionality including ticket printing.
The Weighing Process:
Vehicles arriving on-site are pre-registered in Sasco’s MultiWeigh application via a web portal run locally on the customer’s network. Once the truck is loaded, they will proceed back to the weighbridge repeating the same process.
- The vehicle will then proceed to the concentrator, upon arrival they will approach the weighbridge during which time Sasco’s automatic license plate and truck identification software will begin searching for the vehicle’s number plate and truck description.
- Once a valid number plate has been detected the entry boom gate will open allowing the truck to proceed onto the weighbridge.
- The vehicle will then come to a stop and MultiWeigh will then proceed to store the weight of the vehicle together with snapshot images of the front and back of the truck and trailer.
- A weighing slip is then printed on our DT-3050 driver terminal and the exit boom gate is lifted allowing the vehicle to proceed to the concentrator for loading
