After several years of consultation between the NRCS, the South African Sugar Association, major sugar mills in South Africa and the National Weighing Association, the NRCS decided that all mixed juice scales used in the South African sugar industry, should be trade approved with effect from the 2021 season.
The introduction of this requirement meant that in order to trade approve and subsequently verify mixed juice scales, it is necessary to have a reference scale on-site capable of processing at precise volumes in aggregate at least 15,000 litres of water. In the absence of the design and construction of a “mobile reference scale”, each mill in South Africa would be required to purchase and install its own reference scale.
Sasco as the leading weighing product repairer and verification service provider to the South Africa sugar industry considered that it was not feasible or practical for each mill to acquire its own reference scale.
Sasco decided to provide an innovative solution, being a completely portable reference scale for the purpose of approving and subsequently verifying mixed juice scales (PMJR).
