Twenty One African countries have agreed to standardise overloading regulations through the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Multilateral Cross Border Road Transport Agreement (MCBRTA).

The Governments of Angola, Botswana, Burundi, DRC, Djibouti, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe have now commenced with the approval and legislative process to bring the provisions of the MCBRTA into national laws within the 24-month timeline committed to.
