WITH AGE COMES GOOD JUDGEMENT:
PETEN-AMUN, BORN CIRCA 250BC WEIGHS IN WITH SASCO

Peten-Amun, born between 300-200BC in Akhmin, Egypt, is one of the most prized exhibits of the Durban Natural Science Museum.
After almost 100 years the mystery of how Peten-Amun came to reside in Durban was finally solved by researchers who linked his journey to South Africa to a young man from Eton College, London named Major William Joseph Myers who in around 1898 brought Peten with him on route to South Africa via Egypt, to fight in the Boer War.
Passing through Durban on his way up to join the 7th Battalion KRRC which was stationed in Dundee, it appears that he dropped Peten-Amun off at the Durban museum for safekeeping.
Unfortunately on 20th, October 1899 Major William Joseph Myers was killed in action, resulting in Peten remaining in the care of the Durban Natural Science Museum for the next 120 years.
In light of the odd circumstance under which Peten-Amun ended up in the care of the Durban Natural Science Museum, the decision has been taken to return him home, as part of these arrangements, Peten-Amun is required to be formally weighed by a reputable body.
