REVISED SCHEDULE OF DESIGNATED VERIFICATION AND REPAIR BODIES WITH MANY SCALE COMPANIES LOSING DESIGNATIONS
The NRCS announced on 26th March 2020 that there appeared to be several scale companies that were designated as Verification Bodies and Repair Bodies which did not meet the requirements set out in the Legal Metrology Act and Regulations, Act 9 of 2014.
Accordingly, all scale companies were required by the NRCS to re-submit documentation, including relevant proof of BBBEE compliance, by 8th May 2020. On 15th May 2020, the NRCS published an amended schedule of scale companies designated as Verification Bodies and Repair Bodies.
This was updated again on 29th May 2020 with the full schedule being found on the NRCS Website.
“Not Designated” means that the company in question is not legally permitted to perform verification or repair work on trade approved scales.
The NRCS has not given specific reasons for not designating some scale companies as Verification Bodies or Repair Bodies, but BBBEE non-compliance is understood to be one reason. The NRCS has furthermore stated that the schedule of designated Verification Bodies and Repair Bodies will be updated on the NRCS website every month with any changes that arise. The next update will be provided at the end of June 2020
Sasco, as a BBBEE Level 3 Contributor, is delighted that the NRCS has upheld both our Verification Body and Repair Body Designation Status and therefore this announcement has no impact on Sasco customers. Sasco can furthermore confirm that we have the capacity and resources to assist those companies whose current service providers are now not designated.
